Figuring out what you need can be the most daunting part of the building process. Follow this guide as a quick cheat sheet for what you'll need and what each part does.
Deck
This one should seem pretty obvious but we've got to list it anyways. You'll want to find a deck that matches your style and is long enough to accommodate an enclosure for your battery and electronics.
Battery
You'll need some way to store energy to push your board forward. Read 'How To Choose a Battery' for more information.
ESC
An ESC or Electronic Speed Controller is a computer chip specifically designed to control the amount of power sent to the motor allowing the rider to determine the speed of the board via a remote input. Read 'How To Choose An ESC' for more information.
Remote
A remote is needed to control the ESC. Without one, there won't be a way to control the board.
Motor
Converts electrical energy stored in your battery into mechanical energy to drive your wheels forward. Read 'How To Choose a Motor' for more information.
Motor Mount
Needed to attach your motor to your board and hold it securely in place.
Pulley System
A couple of pulleys that are run between your motor and wheel via a belt. (Contains a wheel pulley, motor pulley, matching belt).
Wheels
An Essential part of every skateboard/longboard build whether it's electric or not.
Trucks
An Essential part of every skateboard/longboard build whether it's electric or not.
Deck/Truck Hardware
Used to fasten your trucks to your deck.
Bearings
Allows your wheels to spin freely along your truck's axle.
Riser Pads
Used to add ground clearance to the underside of your build (Motors, Enclosure, etc).
Grip Tape
Used to add grip to the top of your deck to prevent slipping while riding.
Enclosure
A simple case to house your battery and electronics.
And that's it! That's a brief summary of what you'll need to build a simple belt driven electric skateboard. There is a ton more information on each of the topics listed above. Take a look at the other sections of the Help Center for more information and more in-depth info about each item needed.
