Once you've confirmed that you have everything, let's get started!
Step 1: Install the base plates on your deck
Utilize your current base plate hardware; the Nexus base plates will install in the same manner as your previous ones, using the existing hardware.
Step 2: Assembling The Front Hanger
Next, let's assemble the front hanger. Use the white bushings for the front.
Begin by inserting a kingpin into the back of the adjustable base plate arm. Ensure that the hexagonal head rotates and sits inside the pocket; this design is intended to secure the kingpin while you tighten the nut.
Following that, place a large flat washer with the round side touching the base plate arm. Then, add the largest white bushing with the sharp side touching the washer and the round side facing upward.
Now, add the hanger without worrying about its direction, as the bushing seats are positioned centrally on the hanger. You may need to push the kingpin aside as you insert the hanger; once the hanger is in place, you can push the kingpin back to its correct position.
Keep in mind that the pivot cup fits snugly, so give it a little extra push. When inserting the hanger into the pivot cup, consider moving your hands or fingers away from the air escape hole located directly under the pivot cup.
Next, add the smaller bushing with the rounded side touching the hanger, and finally, the cup washer.
Tighten the entire assembly using the 3/8-24in nylon lock nut.
The complete assembly is now prepared to be placed into the base plate. Insert the front hanger assembly into the base plate, ensuring that the kingpin nut faces away from the board, as these are Reverse King Pins, after all.
The Nexus trucks offer three base plate angle positions: 33 degrees, 44 degrees, and 55 degrees.
We suggest setting 33 degrees in the back and 44 degrees in the front. Opting for a lower degree value enhances stability, while a higher angle provides increased turning ability. Experiment to find the combination that aligns with your riding preferences.
Insert the two M6x40 bolts through the base plate to secure the trucks in your chosen angle position.
The Nylon nuts will snugly fit into the pockets, holding them in place as you tighten the bolts. No need for wrenches—just keep tightening until you feel them "bottom out." You should have a few threads showing, unlike in this picture where the bolts are only finger-tight.
Step 3: Assembling the Rear Hanger
Moving on, let's assemble the rear hanger. The steps are nearly identical to the front truck with a few minor differences.
For the rear hanger, use the green bushings this time. Begin by installing the largest green bushing, placing the sharp side down and the round side up.
Proceed to add the hanger as usual.
Include the smaller green bushing and washer just as you did before.
Once again, insert the hanger assembly into the base plate and secure it with the M6 bolts.
Step 4: Installing the Motor Mounts
The PinTek Mount System is a standout feature of the Nexus trucks, offering riders the flexibility to choose from 33 different positions. This ensures that your motors are set at the perfect height for your ride.
Slide the mount over the axle and press the pins into the desired location on your mounts.
Now, secure your mounts with the M5x20 button head bolts and M5 Nylon nuts.
Step 5: Spacers, Spacers, Spacers
Each setup is unique, so we've included a variety of spacers and washers to maximize your success.
The primary spacers to use are the two 33mm spacers for the front hangers and the two 11mm spacers for the rear. The shorter 11mm spacers are designed for the rear to accommodate the extra room needed for your pulleys.
Recognizing that precision matters, especially with pulley alignment, we've included a pack of washers for finer adjustments. Feel free to add these as needed for a more precise setup.
THAT'S IT!
Install your wheels and motors and you're ready to ride!
A couple important notes:
-
We recommend using Loctite on all NON-Nylon locking nut screws, such as Motor screws and Gear Cover screws. If it has a nylon locking nut, skip the Loctite.
-
Remember, PinTek serves as a last line of defense, not a permanent load-bearing solution for your motors. Keep your motor mounts tight, and regular maintenance is still crucial.
-
No need to remove axles during installation. If they ever need removal for maintenance, don't forget to take out the safety grub screw located on the hanger.
