Almost every day we get the same couple of questions:
- What's the difference between the Belt Driven Motor and Hub Motor ESCs?
- Can I use a Hub Motor ESC with my Belt Driven Motors and vice versa?
The Hub Motor and Belt Driven Motor ESCs are nearly identical but are a bit different under the hood. Each ESC is configured for a specific motor KV rating range. Hub motors tend to hover around 75KV while belt driven motors tend to hang out in the 200KV area.
Click Here for a quick explanation on KV Ratings and how they work.
So does the ESC type really matter? Yes, mostly. If you plug in a pair of hub motors into a belt driven motor ESC it will run, but how long they will run is a different question. Running your motors and/or your ESC will decrease the life expectancy significantly.
We highly recommend using the proper ESC type for your motor type to ensure that everything works properly in the long run. If you accidentally purchased the wrong ESC type for your motors please get in contact with us to change your order or to set up a return prior to building.
